Recent Educational Assessment
We had to go for another educational assessment for Joash since the last one was done 4 years ago.
Recent Assessments
1. Comments
Joash was analyzed by an experienced teacher from UK on 28 February 2006, in connection with a pre- evaluation of a school.
“Joash is a pleasant boy who despite the serious nature of his difficulties with spelling and reading was willing to attempt all tasks asked of him.
He will, however, face increasing uncertainties as studies become more complex – that is as vocabulary becomes more subject specific and expansive….. …..”
“Joash urgently needs some formalized, structured, cumulative teaching to give him reasons why words are read and spelt as they are. This will take away the guess work tactics he now employs to attempt spellings and decoding words”.

2. The final Report
Here are a few important points from the three page report from a professional center at Madras (Tested on March 3, 2006):

“All his developmental milestones were reported as normal. He is the eldest of the three siblings and has a warm relationship with them. He lives in a. nuclear type of a family.
He is highly interested in playing with electronic equipments and understands their functions very well”.

“Joash is a pleasant thirteen-year-old boy who had no inhibitions in expressing his ideas. He followed the instructions well. During the test session he rested his chin on the table and worked through. The posture often needed to be corrected to help him apply to the task.

Cognitive Ability Standard score Age Equivalent
1. Memory for Sentences 92 9.6 years
2. Visual matching 62 8.3 years
3. Analysis Synthesis 121 31 years
7. Concept Formation
Fluid Reasoning 101 13.10 years

COCLUSION:
The test profile shows, Joash's strength lies in fluid intelligence. He faces difficulty in the areas of reading, comprehension, writing and solving math problems. There is an overall discrepancy of three to six years, which makes it difficult for him to cope with his academic performance. He would need a full time or an intensive remedial help to enable him to take up his board exams in a few years time. His potential as seen from the cognitive battery does show his ability to acquire and master any content material. However, if he is supported with intervention to improve his comprehension, and writing, he should be able to complete his higher education”.

Future Plans: Waiting for the right direction
Some of the schools recommended to us in Madras or Bangalore are beyond what we can think of, about Rs.80,000 a year!

Another option is to relocate to any other part of the world for next few years, where he can grow and be trained to face the word all life. I am open for any work situation or a research study programme. If you are aborad anywhere, you may guide us in this.

A Helping Hand from you
We trust in the Lord for all our personal or family needs and had made our request to Him alone. I am motivated to go a step further. With much reflection, prayer and encouragements from a few close people of God, we are presenting it:

First, you can agree to pray with us. Tell us if you are really interested to hear from us that you can pray.
Secondly, you can stand with us by financial support or connect us to the right people of God who will be willing to share this burden by supporting Joash’s special schooling or any relocation in that respect.

We may require about Rs.80,000 to Rs.1,00,000 a year to put him in a school in India which has some provision for Dyslexics.

We will update you/them with regular reports and progress. We can open a special account for Joash and you/your friends can opt to send your payments to the school or the organization we work with. But to make any further move on this, we need to hear from you as to how much amount you/ your friend will be able to support us yearly for the next seven years.

We appreciate your comments.
